Has Stowaway been affected by the 19/20 bushfires on KI?
The conservation park that Stowaway overlooks was burned in the devastating KI bushfire. We are pleased to say that the bushland has regenerated at a breathtaking pace and our view is full of beautiful trees and yakkas.
What is the difference between The Nest & The Sleepy Hollow v The Hide & The Snug
Both The Nest and The Sleepy Hollow have the same fabulous amenities and are almost identical in layout and theme. The Nest has the panoramic views and the dramatic view when you approach, however The Sleepy hollow is more tucked away and protected from the wind. The Sleepy Hollow also has expansive sea views and great views over the Conservation park. We can 100% guarantee you will love both of the Stowaways!
The Hide and The Snug are our brand new accommodation’s, build on the same 80ha of land (whilst retaining your seclusion) and are the second generation of Stowaway. All the features you love about the Originals (Sauna, spa, fire) with some…extras (outdoor shower, round bath, designated dining area, cute powder room/dressing nook plus a little bit bigger).
If seeing the coast is a must for you then book The Hide, if ultimate privacy and being cocooned in bushland is you thing then book The Snug.
We are having trouble getting on our preferred ferry or on it at all
Having to catch a ferry adds to the charm of visiting but does pose some logistical challenges, especially for more spontaneous bookings! Bookings are constantly changing for all the ferries so its pretty common to have an opening pop up if you just keep ringing Sealink or using the ‘Manage your Booking’ function on www.sealink.com.au .
Worst case scenario you can always go on standby for your desired ferry (as long as you are one of the first two cars in the standby lane you will usually get on). We personally do this all the time with quite a bit of success – number one tip is to get there at LEAST an hour before the departure time of your desired ferry. Also make sure you get your name on the standby list in the ticket office.
Other option is to Fly and hire a car! QANTAS fly daily and car hire is available at the airport.

How much interaction is there with hosts?
We understand you have chosen Stowaway Kangaroo Island for its seclusion and privacy, and it is our priority to respect this. Apart from a quick daily check of the hot tub (between 12 and 1pm, it takes 1 minute and unless you’re in the hot tub we won’t need to disturb you) you won’t see us, but if you have any queries we are only a friendly phone call away.
Can someone come and do our cooking?
Stowaway Kangaroo Island is ultimately a self-catering experience, and we have designed our food packages to make this as easy as possible. We have taken the hassle out of a trip to the shops, our food packages give you all of your ingredients portioned ready for you to prepare, cook and serve when and where you like. However, if you would like an in-house cooking experience this is certainly something we can arrange for you.
How often is the lodge cleaned/bedding changed/firewood stocked etc.?
We know you have come to Stowaway Kangaroo Island for romance and seclusion so we aim to leave you alone as much as we can, so we will not enter into your Stowaway during your stay. We are required by law to test the hot tubs once a day (between 12 and 1 pm) but unless you are in the hot tub we don’t need to bother you to do this. We stock the Stowaways with everything you will need for the duration of your stay but if you do need something, don’t hesitate to ask. A cleaning service is provided for stays of more than 5 nights (a general clean halfway through the stay to keep your Stowaway fresh and sparkling!)
What is the check-in procedure?
We know privacy is a big part of why you come to Stowaway Kangaroo Island so we like to let you arrive and discover your retreat under your own steam. We will give you a quick call after you arrive to make sure everything is as you expected. We like to have your Stowaway ready for you to enjoy (the fire lit, bubbles chilled or in summer the air-conditioning going) so a reasonably accurate check-in time will help you get the most out of your stay.
- Entry into the property and your Stowaway is by PIN and you will receive this via email in the lead up to your stay
- Check in from 3:00 pm
What is the checking out procedure?

- Check out is a quick clean, turn off of all the amenities then simply shutting the door behind you.
What is the payment and cancellation policy?
Full payment is required at time of booking. We understand things can change, and if you cancel your booking with us 30 days or more before your scheduled stay we do offer a full refund minus a $65 administration fee.
Date changes are possible but subject to availability and these will not incur an administration fee if arranged 30 days or more before arrival.
If you cancel 30 days or less before your arrival date, no refund will be made, incurring a 100% cancellation fee of the total booking.
For this reason, we strongly recommend you take out appropriate comprehensive travel insurance, that may result in the cancellation of holiday bookings.
Please see our Booking Terms and Conditions page.
